Establishing our Residency in Sioux Falls, SD

Well the trip to Sioux Falls was uneventful.  We saw lots of corn-I do have to admit that I am getting tried of corn, but I do thank all the farmers that grow it.

We pulled into the Tower Campground (You have to have both or your names on the receipt from the campground), setup and found our mail service-Alternative Resources, got everything taken care of with them and then went to dinner.  You have to have a physical address to establish residency and you get that from your mail service.  We choose Alternative Resources because we had done our research and we heard good things about them.  http://www.alternativeresources.net/  If you do decide to use them please mention our name, Mark & Bonnie Williamson.

Friday morning we head down town to first get our driver licenses which turned out to be a breeze, sign this, give me $20, look at the camera and bingo bam we have SD licenses.  On to DMV to get everything registered.  This process took a little longer but wasn't painful at all.  Now we were expecting to pay at least $1,500 but the final bill for everything was $819.  Hot Damn!!!  North Carolina can kiss our butts, no more property tax for us!  Next we got registered to vote.  We were very happy campers when we left and I must say that everyone that we dealt with was really nice to us.  So far we love SD.

We are Official

Sioux Falls is really pretty and we had been here before in 2007 on our way to Sturgis and would have never dreamed 4 years later we would be calling it our home state.  But we will always call North Carolina home.

The Tower Campground isn't much but they are very nice and they gave us a good site.  They work closely with Alternative Resources so it is best to use them as your campground.  There are no amenities, it is next to a trailer park and there are permanents in the campground, along with efficiency apartments.  But you are located right in town which is convenient for getting all your business done.  I would probably rate the campground a 5 and the staff a 10.

We spent Saturday just staying busy, I listed some things on EBay, Mark washed the vehicles and Caravan and then worked on buffing out the first scratch we put in it.  Yes that's right, our first scratch, it was heart breaking!!!  We got it when we were pulling out of Cherry Glen campground which had lots of trees that needed to be trimmed.  Lesson learned...the night before departure walk the exit route looking for branches that could be trouble.  Then like a thief in the night get your tree pruner and remove it!  Oh well it is what it is.

Headed to Grand Island, NE tomorrow.

  2. Becoming a resident of SD was a hoot for us....to be able to spend the night and get our DL the next day! They make it so easy...guess why they call SD "America's Mailbox"....

  3. Hi - I just found your blog today. I am glad to hear how easy it is to become SD residents. We are going to use SD for our home base as well. I am also going to be interested to hear how it goes at Amazon - I saw your comment on Wandering Wingers. Harry and I are also thinking about working at Amazon when we hit the road. :)
