Sturgis Rally 2021

We left Pierre SD this morning, but it was slow going!

We scored a spot at the Elks Lodge in Rapid City and got together with our friends Bob and Sharel.  It's been 3 years since we saw them, and they were some of the first friends we made on the road!

Once again what man can do is incredible!

Today we moved to the Glencoe Campground where we have accepted a job to work the Bike Rally. We will work part time starting on the 7th then fulltime once the rally starts. We were here 16 years ago when we attended the rally so it will be interesting to see it from a different perspective. Once we got setup a few hours later we had cattle being rounded up in the campground! There are only 3 campers here including us but give it a month and the place will be crazy. Went to Spearfish today and enjoyed a nice afternoon and then ended up at the brewery. Another excellent day.

Today we rode on the George S. Mickelson Trail which is a rails to trails bike route. It is 109 miles long. We started at Deadwood and rode to Englewood and back for a total of 21 miles.

We started today’s ride in Hill City on the George Mickelson trail and ended up in Mystic for a round trip of 30 miles. Passed through two awesome tunnels, met some nice people and saw beautiful country. Now for a much-deserved beer 🍻.

Happy 4th of July!
Got the Harleys out and rode into town.  Boy things will really be changing in a month!
Went to Custer to watch the Fireworks.

Sunday, we hiked Bear Butte. Took 10 minutes to actually get into the park as we had to let the buffalos🦬 pass the road first. So pretty with great views of the surrounding area.

================

2 days until the campground officially opens! It’s been nice having it all to ourselves but ready for all the craziness to begin. 30 July

Things are changing at the Glencoe campground. Having adult beverages enjoying cool temperatures before the craziness begins. Sounds of the drag strip and the rumble of motorcycles will be the normal for 2 weeks. Remember life is about experiences!!!

2 August 2021

Opening day for the campground! Our end hasn’t filled up that much but there is a ton of people here! I worked 13 hours today checking in guests and Mark did 13 as well parking them. This weekend will be really busy!

It never stops at the Glencoe. I work in the Ticket Booth (which is open 24/7) and Mark has been directing traffic along with parking folks. The campground is packed, and all the reservations haven’t come in yet. Day 5 of 12–14-hour days and 9 more to go! It is an experience working a rally of this magnitude, our resumes continue to grow as we travel our great country. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Marks little truck that he got to use.

This is the line at the ticket booth of folks waiting to check in!

Our last day at work, 17 August!!! Everyone is gone and we have the campground back to ourselves. I wanted to ride up on the top of the hill and post a video of the campground packed but it didn’t happen during rally working 12 hours plus. Tonight, my sweet husband took me to the top of the hill to view our surroundings. The sunset was beautiful as we rode through the campground ground. It has been an experience.

It has been an experience.
We have met some really nice people, but if I never hear another motorcycle, it won't hurt my feelings.

We have lined up a gig for next summer in Spearfish SD at the D.C. Booth Fish Hatchery.

As always, thanks for following our travels and hop on over to my Etsy shop for unique handmade sterling silver jewelry!
